SOUTH AFRICAN #T20 GLOBAL DESTINATION LEAGUE

CSA PRESIDENT EXCITED BY BIG NAME INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS, PARTICIPATING IN SOUTH AFRICAN #T20 GLOBAL DESTINATION LEAGUE
New Delhi, Monday, 06 February 2017

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) President, Chris Nenzani, today welcomed the prospect of South African fans being able to see their Proteas heroes as well as a significant number of the world’s global stars in action in the inaugural edition of its new #T20 Global Destination League, debuting later this year.

“This is truly a win-win situation for all the stakeholders in South African cricket,” commented Mr. Nenzani.

“It has now been 8 years since we last hosted a major ICC tournament. In the intervening years, our fans have only been able to see the world’s best players during bi-lateral tours.  With this new #T20 Global Destination League, we present an opportunity for these players to be seen in South Africa on an annual basis.” added Nenzani.

“We are excited to see our star Protea players in action with all Protea players available to play in the tournament. Eight star South African players will be pre-assigned to each of the teams.  There will be over 120 participating players with over 80 spots for South Africans.  In addition, this tournament will reach its crescendo at the start of the summer holiday season which will make it particularly attractive to our youth.

“It has also become a trend for the franchises in these competitions to appoint past icons to their coaching staff, and this will have further benefits for the game. The opportunity is there for our own players and coaches to interact with the best, and this has particular significance for those of our players who have yet to play international cricket to test their ability at a very significant level.

“Our tournament has now become a reality and it is something we can embrace with a sense of excitement and enthusiasm. I would like to commend our Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat, and his team for the outstanding manner in which they have done the ground work to make this all possible,” Nenzani concluded.

The process for securing international players will be closely monitored to ensure proper procedures are followed and NOCs are received by the respective home Boards.

Pattachitra is said to have its origin dating back to 5th Century BC. It is a famous painting style of Odisha and it is derived from the Sanskrit words Patta (or canvas) and Chitra (or picture). Preparations for the painting itself requires concentrated craftsmanship. For making the Patta, layers of cloth are stuck together with glue made of tamarind seeds, and then the thick cloth is coated with the powder of a claystone till it is firmed. When the cloth dries, it is polished with stones until the surface is smooth enough to be painted on. Preparing the colours is finely regulated, and naturally available raw materials used to make the paints. The gum of the kaitha tree is the base for the pigments. Roots of the keya plant are often used for normal brushes. Pattachitra is a highly disciplined art form with exquisite figures, elaborate designs, and finally-blended colours. The famous themes, mainly mythological, are thia badhia – depiction of the temple of Lord Jagannath, Krishna Leela, Dasavatara and Panchmuki – Lord Ganesha as the five-headed deity.

German conservatives agree on Merkel as chancellor candidate

Germany’s conservative parties agreed on Monday to nominate Angela Merkel as their candidate for chancellor in a September 24 election despite their long feud over how to tackle the migrant influx. The Christian Social Union (CSU) – the Bavarian sister party to Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU) – has long criticized Merkel for allowing more than a million refugees into Germany over the last two years. The CDU and CSU are meeting in Munich to discuss how to defeat a resurgent Social Democratic Party (SPD) in September’s federal election. Merkel and CSU leader Horst Seehofer are due to present their joint election strategy later on Monday.

Bahrain opposition loses appeal against dissolution

Bahrain’s top court rejected Monday an appeal by the country’s main opposition group Al-Wefaq against its dissolution over terrorism-related charges, a judicial source said. The court of cassation “denied the appeal against the dissolution of Al-Wefaq and the seizure of its assets,” the source said. The decision comes three months after the Gulf kingdom’s largest Shiite formation appealed a court order to dissolve it over charges of inciting violence, encouraging demonstrations and “harboring terrorism”. Al-Wefaq leader Sheikh Ali Salman has been behind bars since 2014 after being convicted of inciting hatred.
