New breast cancer Eve drug

Specialised Therapeutics Asia to make NERLYNX® (neratinib) available to women in Singapore
A NEW breast cancer drug shown to significantly reduce the risk of cancer recurrence is being made available to women in Singapore via a Special Access Program.
The drug, NERLYNX (neratinib) is an oral medication taken by women with HER2+ breast cancer who have completed adjuvant trastuzumab-based therapy.
NERLYNX has been shown to significantly reduce the ongoing risk of recurrence in HER2+ early breast cancer patients. The greatest benefit was observed in women who were also hormone-receptor positive (HR+) and treated within 12 months following completion of trastuzumab-based adjuvant therapy. Their five-year risk of recurrence or death was reduced by 42%. In these patients, invasive disease-free survival (iDFS) was 90.8% in the patients treated with neratinib, compared with 85.7% in those receiving placebo (hazard ratio = 0.58; 95% CI: 0.41−0.82; p = 0.002).
ST Asia Chief Executive Officer Carlo Montagner said a formal registration decision was not expected by Singapore’s HSA before 2020, although he noted that NERLYNX is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
NERLYNX is made available in Singapore by Specialised Therapeutics Asia, under exclusive license from Puma Biotechnology, Inc.

  1. India in rain snow

    | A cyclonic circulation in the north will induce cold weather conditions in the region, thus triggering ‘moderate to heavy’ snow or rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand20190126_212858

Arunachal Pradesh is also likely to experience scattered snow.
As the cyclonic circulation moves eastwards and merges with the anti-cyclonic circulations, it will intensify the southerly flow, causing rains thunderstorms.
‘Moderate to heavy’ rain is likely over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Delhi. Isolated rain is likely over western Rajasthan and Assam. Thunderstorms and hailstorms are possible over these states.
Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidharbha will receive isolated rain with thunderstorms.
Northern, central, eastern and northeastern India are likely to be covered by a thick blanket of isolated dense fog.
Maximum temperatures will be -2°C to -8°C lower than normal over Punjab, Delhi and the NCR. Night-time temperatures will be ‘warmer than normal’ over the country.
Air qualities will be poor or very poor over the country especially around major cities like Delhi.
    Thursday and beyond
‘Moderate to heavy snow’ or rain is expected in southern Jammu & Kashmir, northern Himachal Pradesh, and northern Uttarakhand, where some spots will receive more than 100 cm of snow. A risk of avalanche cannot be ruled out as well. The Rain and snow will abate by Friday.
Punjab, Chandigarh are likely to experience moderate to heavy rain. The Met team said that Punjab is on cards to receiving 25-50mm of rainfall with the possibility of flash flooding in a few places. Isolated rain is likely over Haryana, Delhi, and western Rajasthan. The possibility of thunderstorms and hailstorms has been highlighted in these states.
Due to a cyclonic circulation over northeastern India, Assam is likely to witness isolated rainfall.
As southerly flow and easterly flow are expected to converge over Eastern India, active convection would start over Eastern India on Sunday. This activity is expected to move northeastward and merge into the activity in northeastern India, resulting in increase in the intensity late Sunday into next week.
Isolated dense fog is likely to envelop northern, central, eastern, and northeastern India.
Maximum temperatures will be +2°C to +8°C ‘warmer than normal’ in Madhya Pradesh and southward. Night-time temperatures will be warmer than normal over the country.

PTB- Germany organized a One-Day Workshop on Water Quality

NMCG Joins Hands with Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) Germany organized a One-Day Workshop on Water Quality
    Exif_JPEG_420
National Mission for Clean Ganga in collaboration with Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) has organized a one-day workshop on PTB-Ganges Project, “Strengthening of Water Quality for Monitoring Water Quality of Ganga”, at NMCG headquarters in New Delhi today along with all stakeholders such as CPCB, State Project Management Groups from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal , all the 5 State Pollution Control Boards, C-Ganga, National Institute of Hydrology, Central Water Commission, WWF India, National Physical Laboratory, Delhi Pollution Control Committee, Haryana State Pollution Control Board, GIZ India etc. The aim of the workshop was project frame and primary findings; disseminate necessary information about the projects and get the inputs and commitment from stakeholders.
Director General, NMCG, Mr. Rajiv Ranjan Mishra welcomed all the German delegates and experts and stakeholders participating in the workshop, spoke “There has been a strong collaboration between India and Germany in the water sector and especially the Namami Gange Programme. Since the very inception, Germany has been the first and foremost collaborator with NMCG, with GIZ India taking the lead and partnering with us for projects in Uttarakhand. This workshop aims to create a positive discussion around real-time assessment of data and find quality measures to support those techniques.  We need to identify the best and logical ways for data collection with correct methodology and sampling techniques. The end results after these interventions in one state should be applicable in other states as well and the qualitative data should not vary. I look forward to the collaborative partnership between NMCG and PTB which will further strengthen our resolve to work for Nirmal and Aviral Ganga.
Mr. Wolfgang Koster, Deputy Head of Economic Cooperation & Development, German Embassy said, “This workshop is an example of successful Indo-German Partnership.  It is a new push to our commitment towards Indo-German co-operation and development. While we are working in the upstream of Uttarakhand for cleaning the Ganga River, the whole of Ganga River will be our topmost priority. It is important that we harmonize the process of data collection, sampling and monitoring strategies and technical issues ranging from reliability of data quality, sample collection with right equipment’s also needs to be addressed. I believe that this workshop will be the start of a robust partnership and the goal of Ganga Rejuvenation with the support of all stakeholders.
The study and discussions in this one-day workshop will help in determining favourable outcomes for developing the policy guidelines that would help to improve the quality of data for monitoring the Ganga River.  As well the data quality would improve through the sampling and analysis of the water samples based on recognized quality assurance measures and a key focus on improving the coordination between all competent bodies and stakeholders

India Unites for Non – Violence and Harmony, a non-political, citizen led initiative organized a campaign in Mumbai from January 23-
30, 2019 to commemorate the 71st anniversary of Gandhiji’s martyrdom. Various civil society organizations, academics and activists came together
on the anniversary of Gandhiji’s martyrdom to appeal to the nation to resist and confront the growing culture of violence facing the country.
Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead on January 30, 1948 at 17:17 hours as he headed towards a multi-faith prayer meeting. He was assassinated by fundamentalist forces opposed to his idea of Swaraj promoting nation-building on the principles of equality of all citizens, Hindu -Muslim unity and communal harmony. Gandhi's Swaraj focussed on the composite nature of Indian nationalism. Under Gandhi's leadership, the freedom movement successfully mobilized and drew people into the struggle for independence against colonial rule: men and women, people from all faiths, regions, speaking different languages, having varied castes, traditions, customs, cultures, beliefs and inhabitants of both rural and urban areas. He dreamt of an India where people lived together and respected each other's differences; where interactions, protest and negotiations would be shaped by the principle of non-violence/ahimsa. Today, 70 years after independence, we are witnessing a rise in hatred and prejudices based on religion, caste, gender, sexuality, region and class. Society is becoming increasingly intolerant and violent. Communal violence, caste based violence and hate crimes are on the upsurge. As citizens we can no longer be silent spectators to this growing ill will, hatred and violence. We must come together to protect the secular, pluralistic and democratic fibre of the country. India Unites Convention on Non Violence and Harmony was organised at Sophia Bhabha Auditorium on January 30, 2019 from 4pm -10pm at Sophia Bhabha Auditorium, Mumbai. The convention was organized by Anhad, CPD (Mumbai), CSSS (Mumbai), India Inclusive , ICWM- Mumbai, PUCL- Maharashtra, YWCA of Bombay. The speakers included Antara Dev Sen ( journalist, editor Little Magazine), Justice Chelameswar (retd. Supreme Court Judge), Javed Akhtar (poet, lyricist & screenwriter), Kawalpreet Kaur (student leader), Admiral L Ramdas (former Chief of the Naval Staff), Meeran Chadha Borwankar (former DG, Bureau of Police Research and Development), Nayantara Seghal (writer) & Pradnya Daya Pawar (Marathi poet & fiction writer). The speeches were followed by cultural performances on the theme by Dolly Thakore (theatre actress), Gauhar Raza (poet & scientist), Imaad Shah (actor & musician), Lynn D'souza (vocalist), Mannu Kohli (singer), Nazneen Shaikh (activist singer), Purva Naresh (playwright & dancer), Saba Azad ( actor & singer) and Vasu Primlani (internaional stand-up comedian)
The convention and performances have been shot and edited by Anhad Media, an independent group of filmmakers: Mohan Kumawat , Sania Hashmi & others.

We are releasing the videos of all speakers. We will be releasing the links for cultural performances tomorrow.
Kindly do Watch and circulate to your networks and friends.
Media friends do write and share if you can.
