Vani wrests lead on Day 2
Greater Noida, 22nd September 2016: Vani Kapoor carded 1 under 71 to jump into the lead on the second day of the 13th Leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at Jaypee Greens here on Thursday. Trailing her by one shot is Gursimar Badwal, placed second with a total score of 144. The INR 6,00,000 event with culminate tomorrow.
Delhi’s Vani Kapoor started impressively, playing a blemish free front nine with a birdie on the very first hole. She played a cautious back nine, carding another birdie on the 11th hole while dropping the lone shot of her round on the 18th. She finished with a total score of 143, giving her a slender one shot advantage going into the final round.
Overnight leader Gursimar Badwal started with aplomb and fired three consecutive birdies on the 2nd, 3rd and 4thholes. The professional from Kapurthala, however, could not capitalise on a promising start and dropped shots on the 7th and 13th holes along with a double on the 10th to settle for the second position with a score of 1 over 73.
Pune’s Shweta Galande too carded 1 over 73 in the second round to take the third place. She carded two birdies on the 6th and 13th holes while dropping a shot on the 18th along with a double on the 4th to finish the round with a total score of 148. Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma is placed fourth after 36 holes with a total score of 150. Her card on the day included three birdies on the 6th, 14th and 18th holes along with bogeys on the 4th, 5th, 9th, 12th and 15th. She also carded a double bogey on the 13th hole to finish the day at 4 over 76.
Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana and Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall are tied for the fifth position with identical totals of 151 after the penultimate round. Ankita carded the lone birdie of her round on the very first hole. She dropped four shots on the 3rd, 8th, 13th and 14th holes while carding a double on the 18th to finish the round with a score of 5 over 77. Amandeep had an eventful day in the park. She carded four birdies on the 5th, 6th, 11th and 13th holes, maximum by any golfer on the day. However, bogeys on the 3rd, 7th, 14th, 15th and 18th holes along with a 5 over on the par-4 9th hole, spoilt her scoreline and she ended the round at 6 over 78.
Delhi’s Mehar Atwal and Jaipur’s Afshan Fatima are tied for the seventh position with identical totals of 153, followed by amateur Shreya Ghei in ninth position at 154.
