- A JOINT EXERCISE BETWEEN INDIAN AND KOREA COAST GUARD NAMED “SAHYOG – HYEOBLYEOG-2016” IS SCHEDULED TO BE CONDUCTED IN THE BAY OF BENGAL OFF CHENNAI FROM 08-11 JUN 16. THE AIM OF THE EXERCISE IS TO STRENGTHEN THE WORKING LEVEL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TWO COAST GUARDS AND FURTHER REFINE THE JOINT OPERATING PROCEDURES. KOREA COAST GUARD SHIP 3009 WILL BE VISITING CHENNAI FROM 08-11 JUN 16. THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EXERCISE ENCOMPASSES AN ANTI PIRACY SCENARIO WHEREIN HIJACKED VESSEL IS SUBSEQUENTLY RESCUED IN A COMBINED COAST GUARD OPERATION OF BOTH COUNTRIES, INTERDICTION OF PIRATE VESSEL, JOINT BOARDING OPERATION, SAR DEMONSTRATION AND EXTERNAL FIRE FIGHTING ARE SOME OF THE FEATURES OF THE EXERCISE. IN ADDITION THE INDIAN COAST GUARD SHIPS AND AIRCRAFT WILL BE DEMONSTRATING THEIR PROWESS BEFORE THE KOREA DELEGATION. THE EXERCISE WOULD BE JOINTLY WITNESSED BY DIRECTOR GENERAL RAJENDRA SINGH, PTM, TM, INDIAN COAST GUARD AND MR. HONGLK-TAE COMMISSIONER GENERAL OF KOREA COAST GUARD .
- DURING THE PERIOD OF STAY, THE KOREAN DELEGATION WOULD BE CALLING ON IMPORTANT DIGNITARIES IN CHENNAI. IN ADDITION, A FRIENDLY VOLLEYBALL MATCH BETWEEN INDIAN COAST GUARD AND KOREA COAST GUARD WILL BE ORGANIZED ON 09 JUN 16.
- CONSEQUENT UPON THE GOVT. OF INDIA APPROVAL TO CONDUCT COMBINED EXERCISES BETWEEN INDIAN COAST GUARD AND KOREA COAST GUARD. THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MoU) WAS SIGNED BETWEEN INDIAN COAST GUARD AND KOREA COAST GUARD IN 2004.
- OVER THE LAST DECADE, THE VISITS OF INDIAN & KOREAN COAST GUARD SHIPS FOR COMBINED EXERCISES HAVE BEEN INSTITUTIONALIZED. THE EXERCISES ARE SCHEDULED EVERY YEAR ALTERNATELY BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES. LAST YEAR INDIAN COAST GUARD SHIP SARANG VISITED KOREA AND NOW KOREAN COAST GUARD SHIP 3009 IS VISITING INDIA AS PART OF THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MoU).
