I am a bit speechless at having visited the Department of Commerce web site in search of simple data on India's exports trends. The page on which one lands (unless i made some gross mistake) duly shows the pictures of the PM and the Min of Industry and Commerce but the data on exports stops at 2011-12. This is also true of the graphics prominently displayed on the same page.
As if this is not shocking enough, the first item on the left side TOC margin gives the Annual Report of the Department for 2012-13 followed by Vote on Account for 2014-15 in that order. Of course the vote on account or the budget allocation for the current fiscal are nowhere in sight.
The report on the meetings of heads of mission in Sub-Saharan countries refers to one that was held in 2003- A lot of water I daresay has flown down the Nile since then.
With exports declining now for 12 (twelve) months consecutively- I do not remember another such period in recent history) the state of the Department's web site certainly does not inspire any confidence that anyone is seriously bothered. So be it.
