Krista Van Fleit Hang is Associate Professor of Chinese at the University of South Carolina where she teaches courses in modern/contemporary Chinese literature and film. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2006. Her first book, Literature the People Love: Reading Chinese Texts from the Early Maoist Period (1949-1966), was published in 2013. Currently she is engaged in a comparative study of Hindi and Chinese cinema, focusing especially on national exchanges in the 1950s, as both countries were experimenting with a combination of socialist realist messages and melodramatic plots in picturing newly formed nations onscreen. She is currently in Delhi with the support of a Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence award, and will spend the next academic year conducting research in China.
Abstract:This talk examines the mobilization of state ideology in two popular anticorruption films from China and India, arguing that they look to assuage the social pains incurred by the increased pace of modernization and globalization by presenting citizens with nostalgic solutions based in the founding principles of each nation.

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Smt. Anandiben Patel, today held high level discussions at Qianhai Shenzhen – Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone with the Chairman Mr. Zhang.
Situated at the shore of South China Sea and adjacent to Hong Kong and Macau,Qianhai Shenzhen – Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone has developed as an innovation area for modern service industry, acting as a pilot area for close cooperation between Mainland China and Hong Kong.
Shenzhen is a major city in the south of Southern China’s Guangdong Province. Shenzhen today, is dubbed as China’s Silicon Valley and is home to one of the most vibrant economic zone in China. It also boasts of one of the busiest container ports in the world.
An Intent of Co-operation was signed in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister between GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City) andQianhai Shenzhen – Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone to work together for the development of smart cities in a reciprocal manner.
GIFT City is an initiative of Government of Gujarat to provide world-class infrastructure and facilities to finance and technology firms. It is being designed as a smart city of the future and is expected to become a major financial hub of the country in the coming decades. It is ideally located between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, on the bank of river Sabarmati, and lies in the influence zone of the ongoing Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). The GIFT city project will have special economic zone (SEZ), international education zone, integrated townships, convention centres, technology parks, software technology parks, stock exchanges etc to provide an integrated township with world class amenities. Once complete will provide 5,00,000 direct employment and an equal number of indirect employment.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister visited the Foxconn Technology Group’s manufacturing facility, to have first-hand experience of the best global manufacturing practices being followed at the Foxconn’s- Longhua Science & Technology Park.  Foxconn, ranked 32 in Fortune500 companies in 2014, with a group turnover of USD 160 billion, is a global giant in electronics manufacturing including mobile smart phones, tablets, laptops, LED panels, TV/ monitor, data centre, solar panels. Their products and services also include PC components, connectors and cables, computer software development and global supply chain management solutions. The Group contributes 5% to the total exports from China. The delegation briefed the Group Chairman about the electronics and IT policies and initiatives of Gujarat.  Later on the Chief Minister headed towards Hong Kong by road for the last leg of her China Tour.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Shri Akhilesh Yadav said that the State Government including the whole bundelkhand Jhansi district to remove the backwardness and of development on the main path is bent. That is going to work on five projects two of them 60 percent to 80 percent, and three projects have been completed. All 13 projects will be completed soon. Erach Multipurpose Dam project will also produce, thereby 02 MWS will benefit farmers.
The Chief Secretary, Mr Alok Ranjan said the State Government’s priority is the development of bundelkhand and such projects have benefited from the applied agriculture. The Government has envisaged for the development of bundelkhand. There are immense possibilities of agricultural development in the region. If gardens, livestock and irrigation is closely in all would benefit. Two rivers in Jhansi and mahoba to revive the pond which farmers get going khode hanai. He said erach 612.04 crores cost dam multipurpose project. It finishes launching after incorporating 1850 o. Will be on irrigation. The project will be completed by December 2016. Today our government completes 4 years in office.
In spite of the legacy of the huge debt burden left by the previous government, so many hurdles, financial constraints… we have delivered our best and fulfilled our commitments to the people of Bengal.
During the last four years, several of schemes/projects of Bengal and our performance have won acclaim of International Organisations like World Bank, United Nations, UNICEF, DFID and so on. Many of the schemes have got national recognition and have been recommended as models for other states to follow.
We are indeed grateful to মা, মাটি, মানুষ of Bengal for giving us the mandate to serve them.
