“CONFERENCE ON MOBILITY AND THE BUSINESS CASE FOR MIGRATION”

10122014

Conference on Mobility and the Business Case for Migration” being organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in association with Oracle and the International Labour Organisation on Thursday, 18th December, 2014 at Federation House, New Delhi, from 0900 – 1700 hrs followed by a Networking reception.
International migration and the mobility of skills represent important facets of a rapidly globalizing world. They impact industry and business in myriad ways, no less than do international trade and finance. Yet, in much of the discourse on migration, industry and trade are missing from the high table. The business case for migration is compelling because it can help meet labour supply shortages, access much needed skills, catalyse innovation and enhance productivity.
However, ensuring ethical recruitment, fair contract conditions, finding the right skill sets and protecting the rights of workers remain challenges. It is in this context that we will be hosting this kick-off event to establish and promote the, ‘Business Case for Migration’. The objective of this Conference is to:
a.       Drive the debate on the relationship between the private sector and international migration in key geographies around the world
b.      Facilitate collaboration and partnerships and to incentivize collective action on critical issues related to the interests of business –
·         Consular issues
·         Skills shortages
·         Labor supply gaps
·         Global hunt for talent
·         Recognition of educational qualifications and skills
·         Factor productivity
·         Recruitment
·         Cultural diversity and
·         Innovation and entrepreneurship.
This Conference will bring together captains of industry, multilateral organisations, thought leaders and policy experts to share their experiences on issues at the intersection of migration, industry and business.  The Conference shall focus on key industry verticals of the knowledge economy such as: Information Technology, Biotechnology, Healthcare, Hospitality, and Education.
I hope you will  be able to join us for this significant event.
Your office may kindly confirm your participation to Ms. Natasha Chhabra atnatasha.chhabra@ficci.com (T: +91 11 2348 7277). Grateful for your confirmation at the earliest, preferably by Tuesday, 9th December, 2014.
On hearing from you, further details will follow.
Looking forward to your favourable response.
Yours sincerely,
(A Didar Singh)

We did it! The torture report is here. Now what?

Human Rights First - American Ideals. Universal Values.
After years of delay, key parts of the Senate intelligence committee’s report on the CIA post-9/11 torture program has been released. Thank you for helping us get here!
You signed petitions calling for the report’s declassification and release. You made sure that Congress, the White House, and the CIA knew the American people wanted to know the truth on torture. We helped to mobilize professional interrogators and retired military leaders who know from direct experience that torture is counterproductive, illegal, and just plain wrong. And together we made sure the truth came out.
The Senate report’s key findings are clear:
  • Torture was more brutal and widespread than Americans were led to believe
  • Torture didn’t make America safer
  • Torture didn’t help us catch bin Laden
After 9/11, the government went to great lengths to allow the use of torture. The 2005 Detainee Treatment Act put a stop to that in the military, but not the CIA. Obama’s 2009 executive order closed the door on CIA torture, but a future president could open it again. We need legislation from Congress to make sure torture is off the table for good.
Sign this petition to ask Congress to enact new legislation on torture. There should be no room for torture ever again.
You helped us get the Senate torture report released. It’s a major accomplishment. Let’s continue our work together and make sure Congress follows through on the report’s findings.
Thank you for partnering with us to end torture.
Sincerely,
Raha Wala

Political Parties have not submitted their Donation Details to the ECI

10122014
29 Recognised Political Parties have not submitted their Donation Details to the ECI

-          Last date for submission of donations report was 30th November, 2014
-          Only 17 out of 45 recognised regional parties have submitted their contributions reports
-          BJP is the only National Party yet to file its contribution report to the ECI
-          Not all national parties have followed the format prescribed by the ECI
New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the only National Party which has not yet submitted details of the donations above Rs 20,000 to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the Financial Year 2013-2014. Among the recognised regional parties, only 17 parties out of a total of 45 parties have submitted their contributions reports at the time of this release.
Defaulting Political Parties: The Representation of the People Act, 1951 states that “…the report for the financial year under sub-section (1) shall be submitted by the treasurer of a political party or any other person authorised by the political party in this behalf before the due date for furnishing a return of its income of that financial year under Section 139 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (43 of 1961), to the Election Commission.”. As the due date for submission of the parties’ audited IT Returns was 31st Oct,’14, BJP and 28 Regional Recognised parties have defaulted on their donations report by more than a month. It is to be noted that BJP had declared the maximum amount of Rs 83.19 crores from 2941 donations during the Financial Year 2012-13.
Submission of Contribution Reports by National Parties: It is seen that BSP had declared that no donation above Rs 20,000 was received by the party during FY 2013-14 and filed the report on 13th Sept,’14, while NCP had filed its report on 17th Sept,’14, and declared donations from 15 donorsCPI had filed its report on 23rd Sept,’14 and declared receiving donations above Rs 20,000 from 44 donorsCPM and INC filed their donations report on the 30th Sept,’14 and declared donations from 70 and 712 donors respectively.
Inconsistencies in the Format used: While analysing the donations reports of National Parties it is seen that INC has not followed the format prescribed by the ECI in declaring its donations details. The column for declaring PAN details of donors is not provided in the contributions reports. Without the PAN details, it would be difficult to link the donors against their donations and hence trace the money trail.
There are 182 donations to INC via bank transfer where the details of bank transfer (name of bank, location, etc) and the PAN details of the donors are unavailable. Also, there are a total of 64 donations made by cash to INC which contain no details of PAN, hence will remain untraceable.
