Ministry of Water Resources Rawat announce The 2nd India Water Week 2013

 The 2nd edition of India Water Week will be held from 8th – 12th April 2013 here in New Delhi at Vigyan Bhawan. The conference-cum-policy dialogue forum coupled with a B2B exhibition is being jointly organized by the Ministry Of Water Resources, Central Water Commission and National Water Development Agency with the theme “Efficient Water Management: Challenges and Opportunities.” Announcing this today Union Water Resources Minster Shri Harish Rawat said this year`s Water Week will have two major components namely, a multi-disciplinary dialogue in the form of a conference and a concurrently running exhibition enriching the theme and showcasing the technologies in water sector.
Shri Rawat while highlighting the the importance of organizing IWW-2013 for creating awareness about the limited availability of water resources in the country and the need to utilize them efficiently to save water and conserve it for future generation also released a curtain raiser for the ensuing “India Water Week”-2013 from next week .
The Minister said IWW-2013 is being organized by his ministry to create a platform for a participatory dialogue on the issues related to water which involves all stakeholders. Thus, India Water Week 2013 promises to bring to the table insights which have relevance to both sectoral players and the general public about relevance and criticality of water-conservation and efficient management, he added.
The minister also answered a volley of questions on related concurrent issues under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Water Resources. He made it clear that his ministry has not stopped the work on the Polavaram project and is considering to form a committee to look into the matter.
Shri Rawat said The first edition of the conference which was held last year witnessed participation of over 1000 national and international delegates and was themed “Water Energy & Food Security: Call for Solutions.” This year, we are adding another chapter. The form of bringing issues related to efficient water management into forefront and with a wide deliberation on these issue we expect to bring out sustainable and widely accepted solutions for these issues, he further added.
The 5-day conference will be inaugurated by the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee 0n Monday (April 8, 2013). The summit will host prominent personalities in the sector as key speakers and attendees. This event has generated considerable interest amongst those who are concerned with water resources. It is encouraging that 1758 registrations from 64 countries have already taken place. The technical themes have been well received with 200 papers likely to be presented at the Conference.
An exhibition named as Water Expo-2013 will be simultaneously held during the conference to show case the technology, latest development and solutions in improving efficiencies in the sectors of agriculture & irrigation, water supply and energy generation. The exhibition has a wide spectrum of product and service providers from all over the world. The exhibition will also provide a specialized venue new materials and techniques in dam rehabilitation and improvement.
A number of international agencies like the World Bank, Global Water Partnership etc. are holding special events focused on specific issues concerning the international community in water management.
