No Political Prisoner should be left behind in Burma’s jails!

Take action to free Zaw Zaw Aung! No Political Prisoner should be left behind in Burma’s jails!

Despite changes in Burma, hundreds of political prisoners remain in jail, and torture continues to be used against some prisoners.

One of the political activists left behind in jail is Zaw Zaw Aung. Zaw Zaw Aung is a 33-year-old activist who raised awareness to bring human rights and freedom in Burma. He was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in August 2008.

Zaw Zaw Aung was arrested in August 2008 and accused of causing an explosion at an office of the Union Solidarity and Development Association (U.S.D.A), which was an organisation formed by the regime in 1993. No proper trial was held, only a closed trial inside Insein Prison. Although an armed student group called Vigorous Burmese Student Warriors (VBSW) claimed responsibility for the explosion, Zaw Zaw Aung was still forced to confess and charged with 4 different counts, including under the 17/1 of the Unlawful Association Act and Section 3 of the Explosives Act. He was given a life sentence with an additional 8-year imprisonment.

Please go to the following link to write a letter to British Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne asking him to take action to secure the release of Zaw Zaw Aung and for the release of all of Burma’s remaining political prisoners:
