Xi to boost economic ties at gateway LA port

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has toured the Port of Los Angeles, a major gateway for US-China trade.

Xi is on the final leg of his US visit. After flying in from the midwestern state of Iowa on Thursday, he was met at Los Angeles airport by California Governor Jerry Brown.

The two leaders then visited the port, where a container terminal is being expanded to cope with increasing US-China trade.

Last year, the port handled shipments with China worth 110 billion dollars, surpassing its trade with Japan and South Korea.

Xi will attend a forum on Friday on bilateral economic relations, aimed at emphasizing the mutual dependence of China and the US, and countering criticism of the trade imbalance.
