Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2012 _7th-9th January 2012:> The tenth edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention will be held in Jaipur from 7-9th January, 2012. The Prime Minister will inaugurate this flagship event of the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs on January 8 and the President will deliver the valedictory address on 9 January.

In the forthcoming PBD, there will as usual be discussions related to development issues such as health, education, youth and inclusive growth etc. It is expected that PBD will have enthusiastic participation from the diverse overseas Indian community spread across the globe.

The effort is to have a meaningful and interactive event that would address issues and concerns of the overseas Indian community. Overseas Indians have emerged as important constituents of their adopted countries. They have contributed to transforming the economies, participating in political process and added value to thought and innovation of their destination countries. They also serve to build bridges between their present homeland and the land of their ancestors.

PBD 2012 is being conducted in partnership with the Government of Rajasthan.

With a view to encourage and promote well-informed and high-quality debates and public discourses on matters of interest and concern to the vast overseas Indian community, estimated at 25 million, spread over 110 countries, a prestigious annual lecture-series is being launched in the backdrop of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Conventions 2010. The overarching theme of the lecture series would be ‘India and its Diaspora: Everlasting Bonds of Togetherness

1. The first in this lecture series will be delivered by Prof. Jagdish Bhagwati, an eminent Person of Indian Origin (PIO), at 1630-1730 hrs Friday, the 08th January 2010 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

2. The PBD-Oration would be open to delegates registered for PBD Convention, 2010
