France to invest 1.4 bn $ in developing 4th generation nuclear reactors

French President, Nicolas Sarkozy says France will invest 1.4 billion dollars in developing a 4th generation of nuclear reactors despite warnings after the Fukshima disaster in Japan. Around 80 per cent of the electricity production in France comes from nuclear power. A report says as President of the G-8 and G-20 industrial groups, Mr. Sarkozy has been pushing for an international standard on nuclear safety. Mr. Sarkozy has announced France will spend 1 billion Euros for developing 4th generation reactors and will also grant large loans to ensure France maintain its position as the world leader on nuclear technology. He stressed his government was still investing massively in renewable energy.
