AIADMK MLAs likely to decide today their new leader in place of J Jayalalithaa

28092014
Sep 28,
The Centre has asked the Tamil Nadu government to ensure effective measures for maintaining peace, law and order after reports of violence in some parts of the state following conviction and imprisonment of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The Home Ministry has sent an advisory to the state government asking for stepping up security arrangements to ensure that no more untoward incidents occur in the state. Incidents of violence, stone pelting, assault on media persons and damage to vehicles by the AIADMK supremo’s supporters were reported from Chennai, other towns of the state.
Tamil Nadu Governor Dr.K.Rosaiah held a meeting with the Chief Secretary and other secretaries and police officials and has ordered them to uphold the law and order situation in the State.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a high level meeting of the Home Department and police officials in Bangalore, after the Special court sentenced J Jayalalithaa. Mr Siddaramaiah said after the meeting that the state government would ensure proper security in Bangalore and surrounding areas bordering Tamil Nadu to maintain peace.
Jayalalitha was convicted and sentenced to four years imprisonment and fine of 100 crore rupees in the 66 crore disproportionate asset case in Bangalore yesterday. Special judge John Michale Cunha pronounced the sentence and the hefty fine on charges levelled against her by DMK General Secretary K. Anbazhagan in 1996. Special Public Prosecutor G Bhavani Singh informed that Jayalalithaa and the three convicted persons were taken into judicial custody after the verdict and sent to a state-run hospital in the city for medical check-up.
The fine will be recovered by attaching jewellery and other articles seized and kept in the court’s custody. Jayalalitha has to move bail application in the High Court where she can also appeal to quash the special court order.
Justice Michael Cunha yesterday directed the Court Registry to communicate the verdict to the Tamil Nadu Governor and the Assembly Speaker. Ms.Jayalalithaa’s position as a Member of the Legislative Assembly becomes invalid even as she stands convicted for four years. She also cannot contest the elections for the period of another ten years.
The AIADMK is sure to appeal to the Bangalore High Court against the judgement. But the Court is on Dussehra holidays and is scheduled to re open on 5th of October.
Presently it is not sure as to when is the exact date of appeal. The AIADMK party sources say that a meeting of the Members of the legislative members might take place today to decide on who will become the next Chief Minister.
Tamil Nadu Governor Dr.K.Rosaiah has been briefed about the developments by the Chief Secretary and other top officials.
Even as questions are being raised on the successor of Ms.Jayalalithaa the party cadres who were on a rampage esterday seem to have calmed down. But still buses have not been plying in many areas of the State.
The political rivals of the ruling party have opened up a debate on the future of the State according to the conviction. As the State is to witness an election in 2016, parties are vying for a political space to gain ground in the State. The party cadres are desperate to know the next development inside the party. Senior leaders of the AIADMK Party senior ministers, members of parliament are yet to reach Chennai to figure out the successor.
Ms.Jayalalithaa is said to have discussed on all the issues concerning the party and her successor with the former Chief Minister and present finance Minister O.Panneerselvam.

#ENDviolence #ItStartsWithMe
Recently launched data on violence against children reveal:
-          21% of girls in India, 12 million[1], have been subjected to physical violence since age 15
-          4.5%  of girls aged 15 to 19, 2.6 million, have suffered some form of sexual violence.
-          13% of girls aged 15 to 19 married or in union suffered from sexual violence[2].
We at UNICEF India invite you to join hands with us and take a step to #ENDviolenceagainst children. This campaign aims at raising awareness about different forms of violence, including physical, emotional, sexual and child marriage.
Every child has the right to a happy childhood free of violence and we would like you to help us spread the message. We are largely bystanders, onlookers. We love passing the buck to others, “You should…”, “The Government should…”, “Society won’t…”, breaking away from social messages that transfer the onus of action to everyone out there, this campaign’s umbrella theme cut across the US and THEM divide and talk in first person.
I can #ENDviolence because #ItStartsWithMe
Ending violence against children is a challenging task as often they suffer in silence and many times adults turn a blind eye to the problem. It can only be ended by collective realization and empowerment. UNICEF believes that we all are catalysts of change within society and have an important role to play.
Kareena Kapoor, Virendra Sehwag, Priyanka Chopra, Rahul Bose, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Farhan Akhtar and Saina Nehwalhave come on board and are supporting the cause. Watch the video: http://unicf.in/ItStartsWithMe-AllStars

As Asia-Pacific  economies  are  experiencing  yet another year of subdued growth,  the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific   (ESCAP)  is  calling  for  the  removal  of  domestic  structural constraints  and the unlocking of fiscal space to help stimulate growth and support social development.
Structural  constraints,  such  as infrastructure and development deficits, along  with  external challenges, are keeping the region from realizing its economic potential, according to the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2014, the annual flagship publication of ESCAP which is the  most  comprehensive  and  oldest annual review of economic and social development  in  the region.
With   constrained   growth   prospects,   productive  and  countercyclical government   spending  is  critical  in  supporting  inclusive  growth  and sustainable  development.  One of the most pressing issues for any country determined  to  invest  in development is to raise the necessary resources, the  Survey  notes,  which  explores various options of mobilizing domestic resources, with a particular focus on tax revenues.
Growth in South and South-West Asia is forecast at 4.7 per cent in 2014, from 3.9 per cent last year, according to the Survey. India is projected to grow at 5.5 per cent in 2014, compared with 4.7 in 2013.

PM Modi launches “Make in India ” global initiative

PM of India Shri Narendra Modi has launched a “Make in India ” initiative with an objective to boost India ‘s manufacturing sector. The “Make in India ” program includes major new initiatives intended to facilitate investment, foster innovation, protect intellectual property, and build best-in-class manufacturing infrastructure. The “Make in India” movement aims to put India prominently on the global manufacturing map and, in turn, facilitate the inflow of new technology and capital, while creating millions of jobs.

He also referred to the Digital India mission and enumerated that Governance should be aimed at digital government and must focus on Digital India to ease business through easy governance.

Further, the Mission Swachh Bharat and “waste to wealth” could lead to good revenue models for business as well. He also referred to his vision of waste water management and solid waste management in 500 towns across India through public private partnership.

The BJP’s mysterious silence on the latest revelations exposing union health minister Harsh Vardhan and party general secretary JP Nadda, have nailed all lies spread by the ruling party on the issue of whistleblower officer Sanjeev Chaturvedi.
The health minister resorted to repeated lies when he was caught off guard on the issue of removing Chaturvedi from the post of Chief Vigilance Officer of AIIMS.
The minister is now evading the issue and is silent along with his entire party, since the BJP’s attempts to trample the AIIMS autonomy through its naked political interference to protect a bureaucrat facing serious corruption charges, is now fully exposed.
The health minister misled the country when he had stated last month that Chaturvedi was shifted as AIIMS CVO since the Central Vigilance Commission had objected to his appointment.
It has now become clear that Harsh Vardhan’s claim was wrong and the CVC did not at any time object to the appointment. Importantly, however, he hid the fact that BJP general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP, JP Nadda had written to him in June seeking Chaturvedi’s removal.
Nadda’s interference did not stop merely at seeking the removal of Chaturvedi from the post of CVO, it now transpires that he even suggested a name for his replacement.
The Aam Aadmi Party challenges health minister Harsh Vardhan and BJP to answer the following questions :
1)      Can the health minister deny that he received a letter from BJP leader JP Nadda in June ?
2)      Is it not a fact that Nadda demanded removal of Sanjeev Chaturvedi from the post of CVO AIIMS ?
3)      Can Harsh Vardhan deny that Nadda wanted probes into corruption cases initiated by Chaturvedi dropped ?
4)      Can the health minister deny that he received a reminder from Nadda in July stressing that the AIIMS CVO be changed ?
5)      Can he deny that under pressure from the BJP his ministry initiated the process to remove Chaturvedi withing 24 hours in August ?
6)      Why is Nadda shying away from revealing his interest in saving Mr Vineet Choudhary ?
7)      What was Nadda’s locus in suggesting his choice as replacement of Chaturvedi ?
8)      What is the BJP stand on its senior leader asking for probes in corruption cases to be scuttled ?
This episode involving Harsh Vardhan and Nadda has brought to the fore, the BJP’s direct compromise with corruption. The response of BJP on whether these two will continue in their positions is awaited. (ENDS)

So far, AAP Maharashtra has despatched monetary help as well as supplies. In the shortest possible period, with limited resources, our team put together a huge amount of essential supplies. We are greatly satisfied and proud of the fact that when our fellow countrymen needed us, AAP stepped up and took upon itself this enormous task. We thank the airlines which have agreed to carry relief material free of cost.

Volkswagen launches new Vento, 1.5 TDI Turbo-Diesel

25092014
Volkswagen launches new Vento, 1.5 TDI Turbo-Diesel now available with 7-Speed DSG Automatic

-          New Volkswagen Vento now available with all-new 1.5-litre TDI engines, with 7-Speed DSG Automatic transmission
-          New features include dual front airbags on all variants, dual-beam headlamps, upgraded instrument panel, redesigned alloy wheels, footwell lights, and flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel

-          New colours for the Vento line-up include Toffee Brown and Night Blue. New Vento available at selected Volkswagen showrooms across India from 24th September 2014 onwards, ex-showroom prices (Mumbai) start at Rs 7.44 lakh

Delhi, September 24, 2014: Volkswagen, Europe’s largest carmaker, announces the launch of the new Vento, one of the most refined, well-built, safe and technologically advanced sedans available in India. To suit a wide range of requirements and driving preference, the new Vento is available with a range of four-cylinder engines – 1.6 MPI, 1.2 TSI and 1.5 TDI powerplants, all of which offer an excellent blend of power, performance and fuel economy.

In response to popular demand for advanced, refined diesel automatics, the new Vento 1.5 TDI is now available with Volkswagen’s technologically advanced 7-Speed Dual-Clutch DSG automatic transmission, a feature that is unique in this segment. Volkswagen’s 7-Speed DSG has two clutches; Clutch 1 handles odd-numbered gears, Clutch 2 handles even-numbered gears plus reverse gear. As a result of this sophisticated clutch management, there are no gaps in propulsive power and power delivery remains uninterrupted. The “lag” that is sometimes associated with conventional automatics is non-existent with the DSG.
In addition to providing outstanding driving dynamics as explained above, Volkswagen’s 7-Speed DSG, with its perfectly timed and perfectly executed gearshifts, also helps with improving fuel economy and lowering emissions. With closely-spaced ratios, the new Vento’s DSG transmission makes the best possible use of Volkswagen’s 1.5 TDI and 1.2 TSI engines’ power delivery, and provides smooth, seamless acceleration at all speeds.

The new Vento’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDI turbo-diesel engine produces 103 horsepower and 250Nm of torque, which provides impressive performance on the road, while its fuel economy figure of 21.21kpl provides uncompromised efficiency. Other engines in the new Vento line-up are also similarly accomplished.

The 1.2 TSI engine produces 103 horsepower and 175Nm of torque, and delivers 16.93kpl in terms of fuel economy. The 1.6 MPI engine produces 103 horsepower and 153Nm of torque, and returns 15.04kpl.
Other changes on the new Vento include dual front airbags on all variants, redesigned 15-inch alloy wheels, and new, more powerful dual-beam headlamps. The new Vento also gets a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel with integrated controls for the car’s entertainment system, footwell lights and Bluetooth telephony. New colours available for the Vento line-up include Toffee Brown and Night Blue.
Speaking at the launch of the new Vento, Mr. Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said “It has been our constant endeavour to provide leading automotive technologies to our customers in India, as elsewhere in the world. The new Vento 1.5 TDI, which is available with our advanced 7-Speed Dual-Clutch DSG automatic transmission, underlines the fact that Volkswagen cars are at the forefront with class-leading technologies, in their respective segments. Our cars have always represented high standards of safety, impeccable build quality, and outstanding driving dynamics, and with all of these, we take one more step forward with the new Vento.”

Ex-showroom prices (Mumbai) are Rs 10.49 – 10.94 lakh for the new Vento 1.5 TDI DSG, Rs 8.57 – 9.90 lakh for the Vento 1.5 TDI,
Rs 9.35 – 9.92 lakh for the Vento 1.2 TSI DSG, and Rs 7.44 – Rs 8.87 lakh for the Vento 1.6 MPI.
