  AGENDA CULTURAL JULIO 2012
CULTURAL AGENDA JULY 2012
Entrada gratuita
Free admission

July is influenced by the tribute that Instituto Cervantes of New Delhi, in collaboration with the Embassy of Mexico, will pay to the recently gone Cervantes prize, Carlos Fuentes. In his memory we will screen a film and documentary series in which he is the main protagonist; as a writer, as one of his books was brought to the big screen (Old Gringo), as a scriptwriter in a western film with Gabriel García Márquez (Time to die), and even as a narrator of a documentary series about the history of Mexico (The soul of Mexico). This film series will be complemented with a conference about the life and work of this great writer of the 20th Century.
To our collection of exhibitions we will add to the newly inaugurated exhibition of Mario de Miranda’s cartoons and Greguerías by Gómez de la Serna, an exciting exhibition of photographs taken by the journalist and photographer Jaime León who, with the title of “The color of Buddhism”, captures the daily life of Buddhist monks.
Given the exceptional success of the cooking course of the Basque Country, we have opened two new editions for the weekend 7th and 8th of July, and 21st and 22nd of July, so everyone can get a chance to learn to cook the great meals of the Basque gastronomy. In relation to this Spanish region we will screen 11 short films on Sunday 1st.

The drawnings accompanying his work share the same freshness, lucidity and causticity.

Learn to cook typical food from the Basque Country, one of the most important cooking traditions in the north of Spain. The quantity and quality of the meals make this one of the best regions to taste spanish food, with delicious receipts used mixing the typical food from the north. Basque cuisine is an important part of Basque culture. According to the chef Ferran Adrià, San Sebastián ”in terms of the average quality of the food, in terms of what you can get at any place you happen to walk into, maybe it is – probably it is, yes – the best in the world.”The most popular dishes there are the seafood, fish (for example Marmitako) and the “Pintxos”, bar finger food. Basque food is one of the reasons for tourism to the Basque Country, especially the pintxos. A popular way to socialize is “ir de pintxos” or txikiteo, a Basque version of a pub crawl, albeit generally more civilized.

Gujarat emerges as top tourist destination

30% rise in tourist arrival during last two years:For next quarter visitors can eye on Suputara Monsoon Festival (Aug 4 – Sept 1) &Tarnetar Fair (Sept 19-21)‘Khushboo Gujarat Ki’ is spreading all over the world and the state is making inroads into the market for tourism industry in the country. Robust growth in tourist arrival – from 1.70 crore in 2009-10 to 2.23 crore in 2011-12.
While Gujarat Tourism is making all-out efforts to maintain the momentum this year toothrough promotion of its upcoming events such as ‘Saputara Monsoon Fest’, Taranetar Fair, Navratri Festival & Rann Utsav all over the country, expected to act as a major booster for tourism infrastructure development in the state in line with the impressive growth in number of tourist arrivals.

Saputara Monsoon Festival (4 August to 1 September, 2012)
At the Southern tip of Gujarat, folded into the densely wooded hills of the Sahayadris, lies the abode of serpents- Saputara. In the picturesque Dangs district, this is a hill station with a difference, where you can immerse yourself in a timeless land that is still pretty much the way God made it. After all legend has it that Lord Rama spent 11 years of his exile in these very forests. This picturesque hill station is perched on a plateau in the Dang forest area of the Sahyadri Range. At an altitude of about 1000 m. Saputara witnesses a uniform weather throughout the year. Saputara does not experience any extreme temperature variations and is an ideal getaway for the sun-scorched souls of the plains. The monsoon rains add to the magic of Saputara. Gujarat Tourism plans to showcase this getaway monsoon destination to the nearby cities like Nagpur, Pune, Mumbai, Nasik in Maharashtra. Maharashtra is seen as the right target segment for this picturesque destination. Pune was the first in the series of cities in which Gujarat Tourism organized a road show to highlight this destination. Over the next 15 days, similar road shows will be held in other cities of Maharashtra.
The Saputara Monsoon Festival will be a month long event where variety of activities/attractions will be on offer for the tourists. Some of the events to be held as a part of the festival include water sports, adventurous activities, laser show, photography exhibition, heritage walk, cultural evenings, food festival, contests, etc. The idea is to keep the tourists engaged for the entire month through one activity or another in the best manner possible.

The Tarnetar Fair (19 to 21 September,2012)
Tarnetar Fair is one of the most happening events in Gujarat and is held at the Temple of Shiva or Trinetreshwar (three-eyed god), popularly known as Tarnetar. Popular belief associates the village with the Swayamwar (marriage) of Draupadi after Arjun performed the Mastsyavedh, an unparalleled feat of archery. Villagers from all over the state, dressed in their brilliant traditional costumes and exquisite jewellery, flock to Tarnetar. A veritable feast for the eyes is the Rasada, the captivating folk dance performed by hundreds of women moving gracefully in a single circle, dancing gaily to the accompaniment of four drums and jodjapava (double flutes). Folk music and folk dances like Hudo, Ras and Garba played by the Kodi and Maldhari dancers is the major Attraction of the fair. Village folks dressed in their typical, embroidered garments, perfectly dance to the tune of the drumbeats, which further raises the spirit of the religious fair. The TarnetarMela covers a large part of the Tarnetar village with a huge number of stalls put up selling beautiful local handicrafts unavailable elsewhere along with ethnic jewellerys, statues of deities and traditional mirror work attires.  For more details about various packages please visit our website www.gujarattourism.com

European Business and Technology Centre / Newsletter, June-July 2012

  Dear friends, supporters and colleagues,
EBTC aims to add value to all our stakeholders and as we’re growing in importance, as also evidenced by a recent visit of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), this is illustrated by EBTC becoming a key implementation platform for EU Policy initiatives. EBTC is part of the Indo-European Research and Innovation Partnership, tasked with Indian partners to implement the agenda for enhancing and synergizing the research and innovation cooperation agreed at the strategic level.
EBTC hosted a successful delegation from the EU member countries to understand the ‘Water, Wastewater and Green Building’ market in India, which paved the way for serious collaborations. In EBTC’s continuing efforts, we are expanding on the concept of integrating Europe, by creating a large European display at the EBTC Transport Flagship Mission in December.
By way of the new virtual matchmaking, this July will see the start of EBTC’s Biotechnology Mission 2012, and I encourage any interested organizations from both the EU and India to sign up for that unique virtual experience. EBTC Project Briefs are becoming part and parcel of every EBTC Mission, and have proven to be of great value, becoming an important channel for EU technologies to find Indian opportunities. A taste of some project opportunities are in this newsletter, but there are many more on the EBTC website!
Keep watching this space for another channel that allows for India and the EU to connect – EBTC as the Indian member of the Enterprise European Network (EEN) is imminent. We thank all of our readers for your continued support in our endeavours.
Poul V. Jensen – Director, EBTC

Opposition candidate Enrique Pena Nieto is leading Sunday’s presidential election in Mexico, exit polls showed on Sunday.Nieto, a candidate from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), is gaining 39 to 42.7 percent of the vote.
Leftist candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, representing the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD), is coming second with 30.8-34.4 percent.
Josefina Vazquez Mota from the ruling conservative National Action Party (PAN) is third with 22.1-25.7 percent.
Incumbent President Felipe Calderon, who has been in power since 2006, is barred by the constitution from seeking a second term.
The PRI, which ruled in Mexico in 1929-2000, is trying to regain the presidency after losing the last two elections to the PAN.
Nearly 80 million Mexicans were eligible to cast ballots in Sunday’s vote.
Some 31,400 monitors, including around 700 international observers from 66 countries, monitored the polls.
Mexicans also elected Mexico City’s mayor, governors of six of Mexico's 31 states, parliament deputies and heads of municipal entities.

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli said,“It was harsh, but you could see straight away they were much fresher,” Prandelli told Rai Sport after the final whistle in Kiev.“We used up a lot of energy this week and didn’t have time to recover, so when 2-0 down against these players that was inevitable.“We didn’t take the wrong approach, as we realised physically they were on another level. At times the generosity of this team hurts the balance of the side. Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon briefed  his disappointment at having missed out on the Euro 2012 title but said he could only congratulate winners Spain.

Vicente del Bosque's team became the first side to successfully defend a European Championship title, as well as the first to win three consecutive major tournaments after their triumphs at Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup. Spain produced a aggresive demonstration of attacking football to confirm beyond doubt that this remains a golden age for Spanish football.Andres Iniesta and Xavi were the architects of victory, playing key roles in goals by David Silva, Jordi Alba and Fernando Torres, who teed up fellow substitute Juan Mata for Spain's fourth. The match-winner in the Euro 2008 decider against Germany, Torres became the first player to score in two European Championship finals, while it was the most handsome winning margin in a final in the tournament's history.

Spain had a point to prove and in the 10th minute there was a glimpse of the pin-sharp attacking football that had eluded them in recent matches, as Xavi exchanged passes with Fabregas before rifling a shot narrowly over.
Four minutes later the deadlock was broken, Iniesta threading a superb pass down the inside-right channel to Fabregas, who slipped around Giorgio Chiellini before cutting the ball back for Silva to head home.
Chiellini's evening lasted barely more than 20 minutes, as the Juventus defender was forced off after landing awkwardly and had to be replaced by Balzaretti.Having being eclipsed by Iniesta in recent matches, Xavi proved that reports of his demise are grossly premature by creating Spain's second goal four minutes before half-time.
The 32-year-old maestro collected a pass from Alba and then delayed his pass supremely before freeing his future Barcelona team-mate to run in and place the ball past Gianluigi Buffon for his first international goal.
Prandelli replaced Cassano with Antonio Di Natale at the interval and the Udinese man made an immediate impact, heading just over from Abate's centre and then obliging Casillas to save after ghosting in behind Spain's defence.
At the other end, Buffon thwarted Fabregas after the Barcelona man weaved his way past Balzaretti and Leonardo Bonucci, who was lucky not to concede a penalty when he appeared to block Sergio Ramos' header with his arm.
Italy's hopes of a comeback evaporated in the 62nd minute, as Motta was carried off on a stretcher with an apparent hamstring injury just five minutes after replacing Riccardo Montolivo, leaving Prandelli's side with 10 men.The game dipped in intensity until the arrival of Torres, who rolled home Spain's third from Media agencies

An action group comprising of world powers that met Saturday in Geneva has agreed upon a roadmap that ushered the way for a Syrian-led transition, to end the country's 16-months' long conflict.A joint communique after the meeting said that the global community wished to see "an end to the violence and human rights abuses" and that the Syrian people enjoyed rights to "independently and democratically determine their own future."

The meeting specified the steps and measures to secure full implementation of Special Envoy Kofi Annan's call for an immediate cease of violence in all forms. The key steps for transition, as the meeting concluded, include the establishment of a transitional governing body that includes members of the present government and the opposition, an inclusive national dialogue process, and a review of the current constitution and legal system.Once the new constitutional order is established, free and fair multi-party elections for new government offices will follow, the communique said.

Syria should give space to established and newly-emerging political actors to compete fairly and equally in elections."This also means that the commitment to multi-party democracy must be a lasting one, going beyond an initial round of elections," it said. The agreement was widely hailed as a major step forward toward resolving the crisis.British Foreign Secretary William Hague represented the five permanent members of the UN Security Council to welcome the outcome."I think the result is a step forward, it is only a step forward but it is a step forward that is worth having," he said.

Foreign ministers of the Security Council's five permanent members - Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States - attended the meeting, along with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and delegates from Turkey, Kuwait, Qatar, the Arab League, and the European Union.Representatives of the Syrian government and opposition were absent. In his conclusion remarks to the meeting, Kofi Annan said the international community has taken its cooperation to a stronger level, by being clearer and more specific and therefore have laid out a path that the Syrian people can embrace and work with.

The special envoy at the same time cautioned about inaction that might destroy the fragile outcome.
"Today's words must not become tomorrow's disappointments," he warned, urging all relevant parties to start working immediately and calling for all Syrians to embrace what has been laid out and work together to stop the killing and build a better future.Though the agreement was built on more consensus and less divergence, some differences remain unabridged, in particular between Moscow and Washington.

The rift was apparent when the two countries both gave their own interpretation of what have been agreed just minutes after the endorsement of the communique. The United States still holds pressurizing and subsequently toppling the government led by President Bashar al-Assad as its primary objective.
"Assad will still have to go," U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, plainly expressing the United States saw no room for the current president and government in and after the transition.
"The text also makes clear that the power to govern is rested fully in the transitional governing body which strips him (Assad) and his regime of all authority if he and they refuse to step down and leave," she said.

Russia, a long-time ally to Damascus, insisted that no changes should occur unless the Syrians first agreed, in other words, the process should be Syrian-led."We consider it to be of key importance that there is no attempt in the document to impose upon the Syrian side any kind of transition process," said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He stressed that the process should not exclude the participation of any group, as was written in the communique, denying preconditions to the transitional process and the national dialogue.
