Founder of The MyanmarTimes freed

Founder of The MyanmarTimes freed:
THE co-founder of The Myanmar Times plus publisher of The Phnom Penh Post, Mr Ross Dunkley, said he planned to appeal a conviction handed down in Kamaryut township court last week.“Many people have known me for a long, long time. Even my staff, know that I’m not capable of doing such an act so therefore I will appeal it. I will appeal this and hope to win the appeal,” Mr Dunkley said after the verdict was announced on June 30.Presiding judge U Aung Min sentenced Mr Dunkley to one month in prison after convicting him of causing minor injuries to Ma Khine Zar Lin, who filed a complaint against Mr Dunkley in January. He was also convicted under Section 13(1) of the Immigration Act, a charge applied automatically when a foreigner violates Myanmar laws, and given the option of a six-month prison term or a K100,000 fine.As Mr Dunkley spent 47 days in Yangon’s Insein Prison following his arrest on February 10 the court decided he did not need to serve any additional prison time and Mr Dunkley said he would pay the K100,000 fine for the immigration charge.Briefing outside the court, Mr Dunkley said he “absolutely denied” touching Ma Khine Zar Lin, who he said he “was merely looking after … I was worried about her.”
