Focused strategy for manufacturing sector:Montek

Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia today said a focused strategy is required to accelerate growth in the manufacturing sector. Talking to Media person in New Delhi, he said the country needs to fast-pace its economic growth and manufacturing would form a major component of any such acceleration.Mr. Ahluwalia expressed his concern over the sluggish growth in industrial output in May, He, however said the May numbers could not be seen as "predictive" for entire fiscal.He said the thrust has to be on accelerating the manufacturing sector, which constitutes over 75 per cent of the total factory output.Mr. Ahluwalia said more focus will be on the strategy for accelerating growth in manufacturing while preparing for the 12th Plan.
