30^th January 2015, New Delhi: A march was undertaken by citizens and people’s movements to remind the present political regime how the actions taken by them in the name of ‘development’ are  murdering Gandhi’s ideals of truth, peace, justice and democracy. On one hand, majoritarian politics of hate and intolerance is increasing communal divide in the country and on the other hand, the neo-liberal economic agenda and corporate loot are snatching away hard earned laws, rights and precious resources from the people. One after the other, ordinances are being passed without any space for dialogue, debate and dissent for people, undermining not just the parliament but also the Constitutional and democratic spirit of this country.

The March, which started from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Statue, saw representation of various people’s movements, farmer unions, labour organisations, youth groups and eminent citizens. Speaking on the occasion, activist Aruna Roy said that today there is no real freedom for the poor and marginalized in this country. On one hand the PM of this country wears a suit worth 10 lakhs and on the other, there is omission of words ‘Socialist’ and ‘Secular’ in the Republic Day advertisement. Undoubtedly, this is not the India of Gandhi’s dreams. Yogendra Yadav said that the very soul of Gandhi, secularism, is now being attacked and we must resist that. Kavita Krishnan said that the attempts by the government to grab our land and our resources are also attempts to snatch away Gandhi’s principles and our democracy.  Rakesh Rafeeq pointed out that the present land ordinance clearly shows how the country is being sold to the foreign companies turning a blind eye to sufferings of farmers and workers. Sardar V M Singh emphasized that the land ordinance will only aggravate the agricultural crisis and conflicts in the country.

The march culminated at Rajghat where tributes were paid to Gandhiji and a pledge was taken to intensify the struggle to free the villages of this country from the clutches of Ordinances, of grabbing of land, water, forest, farms, livelihood of the people. Medha Patkar said that Gandhi dreamt of an India where villages and communities would survive and thrive and live together in harmony. He fought against the politics of hate and fundamentalism. As we remember him today, we not only reject the communal hatred being spread in society by those in power but also the wholesale transfer of land, water, forests and minerals to corporations through a slew of Ordinances. We reject this and demand that the Government takes them back immediately.

A call was made to all social and people’s movements, farmers and workers groups, forest dwellers, adivasi groups, concerned citizens and civil society at large to join hands with left forces in coming together on February 24th in Delhi to collectively protest against Land Ordinance.

विहिप की देशद्रोही गिलानी का इलाज न करने की अपील

     नई दिल्ली जनवरी 31, 2015. विश्व हिन्दू परिषद ने दिल्ली के डाक्टरों तथा चिकित्सालयों से अपील की है कि वे भारतीय सेना तथा जम्मू कश्मीर पुलिस के जवानों की जान लेने वाले आतंक वादियों के पक्षधर कश्मीरी अलगाववादी नेता सैयद अली शाह गिलानी का इलाज विल्कुल न करें। विश्व हिन्दू परिषद के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संयुक्त महा मंत्री डा सुरेन्द्र कुमार जैन ने आज एक बयान जारी अपील की कि दिल्ली के डाक्टर ऐसे देश द्रोहियों को अस्पताल की जगह जेल में भर्ती कराएं तथा दिल्ली पुलिस इस मामले में उनकी मदद करे। हुर्रियत कॉन्फ्रेंस का चेयरमैन अलगाव वादी गिलानी इन दिनों अपने इलाज के लिए दिल्ली आया हुआ है। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि अभी हाल ही में पूरी कश्मीर घाटी को अपनी जान पर खेल कर जिस भारतीय सेना ने भीषण प्राकृतिक आपदा से उसे बचाया उसके प्रति कृतज्ञता व्यक्त करने की बजाय हमारे सैनिकों के हत्यारों का साथ देने वाले गिलानी का सम्पूर्ण देश बहिष्कार करे।

     ज्ञातव्य रहे कि जम्मू कश्मीर के त्राल में सेना के कर्नल एन एन राय और जम्मू-कश्मीर पुलिस के एक हेड कॉन्सटेबल संजीव सिंह की हत्या करने वाले आतंकवादियों को शहीद का दर्जा देते हुए श्रद्धांजलि तक दे डाली  है। गिलानी ने शहादत का मजाक उड़ाते हुए कहा है कि शहीदों (मारे गए दोनों आतंकी) का पवित्र खून बेकार नहीं जाएगा। 27जनवरी को हुए इस मझभेड़ में दोनों आतंकी मारे गए थे।

     विहिप ने आशा व्यक्त की है कि देश के अमर शहीदों की शहादत को मध्य नजर रखते हुए दिल्ली के चिकित्सा जगत से जुडे लोग अपनी राष्ट्र भक्ति का परिचय देते हुए ऐसे राष्ट्र द्रोही को सबक अवश्य सिखाएंगे जिससे कोई दोबारा भारत की संप्रभुता को चुनौती देने का दु:साहस न कर सके।

Big police presence on streets of Vienna as leftwingers protest far-right ball in Hofburg palace.

Police have arrested over 50 demonstrators in Vienna, who were protesting against a ball, sponsored by the right-wing Freedom Party of Austria. Six policemen were injured during scuffles, while around 5,000 people attended the protest.

Organizers of the protests say that around 10,000 demonstrators were present, while police said only half this figure turned up. Seven people were injured during the protest – six law enforcement officers and one demonstrator, while over 50 arrests were made, DPA news agency reported.

"This is not a harmless dance event, but a meeting where Europe's extreme right comes to network," said one of the left-wing activists who organized the protests.

"We have got more people out than ever before. We are protesting for education against intolerance, Nazis out of parliament and we want to say that Muslims and refugees are welcome," the Wiener Zeitung newspaper cited another activist as saying.Protesters had initially tried to stop the ball guests from attending the event, the newspaper added.

The vast majority of the protesters were peaceful, though isolated scuffles did break out. Police in riot gear and with dogs had to deal with rioters throwing fireworks and firecrackers. The protest was more peaceful than the demonstration in 2014. The damage from this year’s protest is not known, however last year the cleanup operation cost local authorities €1 million ($1.13 million).
Academics Ball (Akademikerball), which is held at the Hofburg Palace, which recently replaced the controversial WKR Ball (Wiener Korporationsring-Ball) has traditionally drawn a lot of opposition from the left-wing and socialist residents of Austria’s capital, due to its connections with Europe’s far-right.

Jayanthi Natarajan quits Congress 

Most vocal and intelligent leader of Congress, Former union minister Jayanthi Natrajan resigned from the party on Friday, accusing it of not being democratic.

Natarajan held a press conference in Chennai and said that there is no internal democracy in the Congress party now. She also resigned as the trusty member of Tamil Nadu Congress Party.  "I have no plans to join any other political party after such bitter experiences," she says. A letter said to have been written by her to Congress President Sonia Gandhi last November, has been published on Friday by The Hindu newspaper.  She disclosed in her letter that Rahul Gandhi was involved in policy decisions at a micro-level during the UPA-II regime.  Jayanthi Natarajan said that she has become a victim of a false and motivated media campaign against her by some Congress leaders.  Reacting to Natrajan's letter, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said her revelations prove that the government led by Congress was a practitioner of a sadistic economy and guilty of crony capitalism.  Jaitley said Natrajan's letter establishes the government she belonged to ensured that the country's economy suffered and projects held up due to whims and fancies of individual leaders.  Speaking on this issue, Congress Leader PC Chacko said if someone wants to resign due to his/her personal reason she is free to do so.

DRDO Successful Test-Firing of Agni-V 

India today successfully test-fired indigenously developed, inter-continental surface-to-surface nuclear capable ballistic missile 'Agni-5' from Wheeler's Island off Odisha coast. The three stage and solid propellant missile, which has a strike range of over 5000 kms and can carry a nuclear warhead of over one tonne, was test-fired from a mobile launcher from the launch complex number 4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at about 8.06 hours this morning. Today's launch was the third developmental trial of the long range missile. The first test was conducted on 19th of April, 2012 and the second on 15th of September, 2013 from the same base. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed scientists for the successful test-firing of 'Agni V'. In his tweet message Mr. Modi said the missile is a prized asset for the country's forces. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also lauded the efforts of scientists and engineers in successful test-firing of Agni-V,a nuclear-capable missile.

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee congratulated DRDO on the successful test-firing of the third developmental trial of Agni-V surface-to-surface missile. In his message to Dr. Avinash Chander, Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri and Director-General, DRDO, the President has said, “I extend hearty congratulations to all those associated with the successful test-firing of the third developmental trial of India’s indigenous Agni-V surface-to-surface missile. I am happy to know that many new technologies relating to navigation and guidance, warhead as well as engine has been tried out in this version. I understand today’s test is also the first time the missile has been tried out in a canisterised version. Kindly convey my felicitations to the members of your team of scientists, engineers, and all others involved in this effort. Our nation is grateful for their hard work and proud of their accomplishment”.

US, EU ask Israel to drop of building 450 new settler homes 

US and EU have advised Israel to drop its plans to construct an additional 450 settlement homes in the West Bank, warning that failure to do so would further destabilize the situation in the region and diminish prospects for peace.

On Friday, Israel announced tenders to build new settlements on the Palestinian territories in a move that has been deemed illegal under international law.

In particular, the announced projects include 156 units in Elkana, 114 homes in Geva Binyamin, 102 in Kiryat Araba, and 78 in Alfei Menashe, according to Jerusalem Post. Some of those tenders are being reissued, however, since contractors refused to take many of the projects in the past.

If Israel proceeds with construction, it will become “an obstacle to peace,” the European Union said in a statement. In addition, it will further “undermine the viability of the two-state solution.”

“Israel should reverse these decisions, thereby putting an end to settlement expansion,” the Europeanswarned. By refusing to do so, Israel faces the risk of “inflaming the very tense situation on the ground.”

 Washington – Israel’s closest ally – has also voiced concern, warning that it would undermine security. The move will not improve Israel’s security, but will have the opposite effect, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.

“I can tell you that issuing tenders like this does nothing to bolster Israel’s security, does not increase its prosperity, and it does not further the cause for peace. In fact it does precisely the opposite,” Earnest said

Bangladesh cuts power supply to ex-PM Zia's house: 

Bangladesh authorities today cut the power supply to opposition leader Khaleda Zia's home after she called a 72-hour nationwide strike beginning tomorrow which coincides with the school exams of over 1.5 million students. Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Partyalleged that the state-run Dhaka Electric Supply Company disconnected the power lines to her upmarket Gulshan office early this morning in an apparent bid to force her to call off the scheduled strike.

E. Ukraine militia ‘ready to withdraw’ heavy artillery from separation line

The self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics are ready to pull back heavy artillery from the line separating militia-held territories from those under Kiev’s control in compliance with the Minsk agreement, according to a joint statement made by top officials of the republics on Friday. The statement said they will withdraw weapons if Kiev is ready to do to the same, adding that the only thing remaining is to“set the date.” The statement was made during talks between Denis Pushilin and Vladislav Deynego, the Donbass representatives at the Minsk negotiations. The Minsk document adopted by Kiev and the opposition in September also includes a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine.

American citizen shot, injured in Saudi Arabia

An American citizen was injured when his car came under fire in Saudi Arabia's eastern al-Ihsaa province, according to the Saudi Press Agency. The man was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Another American was in the car but he was not harmed, AP reported. As of Friday afternoon, police had not yet determined the source of the gunfire.

ISIS attack Kurdish outposts in Iraq, kill senior commander

The Islamic State (IS) killed a senior Kurdish commander, Brigadier General Shirko Rauf, and five Kurdish peshmerga forces in a major offensive on Iraq’s northern Kirkuk province Friday. The assault on areas south and west of the city began at around midnight and involved heavy and medium weapons. Bombings elsewhere in Iraq left at least 21 people dead, Reuters reports.

At least 49 killed in blast at Shiite mosque in southern Pakistan

At least 49 people were killed in a powerful explosion at a crowded Shiite mosque in Pakistan during Friday prayers, Reuters said. The blast was caused either by a suicide bomber or an explosive device that went off in the center of Shikarpur, a city in Pakistan's southern province of Sindh, according to police.

Donetsk, Lugansk representatives leaving Minsk, contact group meeting on Ukraine canceled

The representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Denis Pushilin and Vladislav Deinego, said they were planning to leave Minsk on Friday, Tass reported. Pushilin earlier said that he was unaware if negotiations between the Contact Group on Ukraine would take place in the Belarusian capital on Friday. A senior Ukrainian Foreign Ministry official said that peace talks on the conflict in eastern Ukraine must be attended by the leaders of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

Saudi blogger Raif Badawi spared from flogging for 3rd time

Saudi blogger Raif Badawi has been spared again from his weekly flogging sentence, AFP reported, citing his wife. Badawi, 31, has been sentenced for “insulting Islam” to be flogged 20 times over on successive Fridays, for a total of 1,000 lashes. Badawi, whose family live as refugees in Canada, has also been given a 10-year prison sentence and fined about $319,000. His wife, Ensaf Haidar, was in Ottawa on Thursday to back politicians in requesting that Prime Minister Stephen Harper personally demand Badawi’s freedom, the Globe and Mail reported.

Trolleybus comes under shelling in Donetsk, 5 killed - reports

A trolleybus has come under shelling in Donetsk’s Matrosova Avenue, TASS reported, citing a spokesman for the Emergencies Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic. Five people in the trolleybus were killed, officials in the republic say, according to media. Initial reports said two people were killed.

At least 25 killed, 50 others injured in mosque explosion in Pakistan’s Shikarpur

At least 25 people were killed and 50 others injured in an explosion at a Shiite mosque in the Pakistani city of Shikarpur on Friday, the Express Tribune said. According to initial reports, the blast occurred during Friday prayers at the Karbala Maula Imambargah in Lakhi Dar.

A man who forced his way into the Dutch national broadcaster and demanded to go on live television had no known links to terrorist organizations, Reuters reported, citing police. The 19-year-old said he had planted explosives, but police said he later admitted he had made the threats up. He also used a replica gun. The man will be arraigned in a closed court hearing later Friday.

Zimbabwe’s Mugabe elected chairman of African Union

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, 90, one of Africa's most divisive figures, was elected the head of the African Union on Friday, Reuters said. The only leader Zimbabwe has known since independence from Britain in 1980, Mugabe assumed the chairmanship, a rotating, largely ceremonial role, at an African Union summit in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

Islamic State militants stage attack near Iraq’s Kirkuk, 18 killed in Baghdad

Islamic State militants struck at Kurdish forces southwest of the Iraqi city of Kirkuk on Friday morning, Reuters said. The militants launched mortar fire and attacked positions held by Kurdish peshmerga fighters in four districts southwest of the city. In a separate attack, at least 18 people were killed when two bombs went off in Baghdad’s Bab al-Sharqi district Friday morning. Three civilians were later killed and at least 10 others wounded in northwestern Baghdad by mortars. In the city of Samarra, about 125km north of the capital, two suicide bombers targeted a security checkpoint, killing three and wounding five members of the police and Shiite militias.

Donetsk representative travels to Minsk for Ukraine contact group meeting

Denis Pushilin, the official representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic, on Friday went to Minsk, Belarus, for a meeting of the contact group on Ukraine, RIA Novosti reported. Envoys from Ukraine, Russia and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) are expected to participate in the negotiations amid increasing fighting in eastern Ukraine.

Blast at Shia mosque in southern Pakistan kills at least 20 

At least 20 people have been killed in a powerful explosion at a Shia mosque in southern Pakistan, the BBC reported, citing officials. Police said that at least 50 people were wounded in the attack after Friday prayers in the district of Shikarpur. The blast could have been a suicide attack, according to initial media reports.

COAST GUARD DAY 2015  

The Indian Coast Guard is celebrating its 38^th Anniversary on 01 Feb 15. An Armed Force of the union, under the Ministry of Defence, the Indian Coast Guard has come a long way from its modest beginning in 1978. Today, with more than 100 ships and 60 aircraft, Indian Coast Guard is amongst the largest Coast Guards in the world. Though initially envisaged for the role to curb the economic offences, Coast Guard has now acquired leadership role in various fields of the national maritime arena. Indian Coast Guard is the nodal Central Coordinating Authority for the National Maritime Search and Rescue, Marine Oil Spill Disaster Planning, Preparedness Response and coordination of Offshore and Coastal Security. To support these onerous responsibilities, the Indian Coast Guard is operating from five Regional Headquarters, 14 District Headquarters located in each coastal state and 42 Stations situated along the coast line.

With Service motto as “Vayam Rakshamah” (We Protect), the Coast Guard Search and Rescue efforts have been instrumental in saving more than 6500 lives since inception, amounting to one life saved every other day. The Coast Guard continues to transform itself into an effective maritime force through acquisition of state of art indigenously designed and built ships and aircraft, consolidation of manpower & infrastructure and honing professional competencies through regular and rigorous training. By the turn of present decade, the Coast Guard is likely to have an inventory of 150 ships and 100 aircraft. 

The President, Prime Minister and Defence Minister also congratulated the Indian Coast Guard on completion of 38 glorious years and its role in national maritime security.

The traditional CG Reception ceremony held on the eve of Coast Guard Day was graced by the Hon’be Raksha Mantri, Shri Manohar Parikar. The Service Chiefs along with dignitaries and senior officials from the Ministry of Defence also attended the ceremony. The Defence Minister on the occasion appreciated the pivotal role of Coast Guard in ensuring the India’s maritime interests in the Indian Ocean Region.

In a re­-calibration of the India Art Fair layout, additional exhibition space has been added to the two main tents, and the permanent structure has been recommissioned to host the largest ever exhibition in a public space on the history of India’s modern and contemporary art. Presented by Delhi Art Gallery, this comprehensive review will showcase the full range of India’s most important artists. Along with the new design elements to the fair, this year sees expanded restaurant offerings from Delhi’s most popular venues as well as live music at the fair, all of which will enhance the overall experience for our growing audiences from both India and abroad.

BJP today set of questions to Mr Arvind Kejriwal 

BJP today as part of its daily inquisition of the Aam Aadmi Party chief ahead of the February 7 Delhi election.

These questions were sent Mr Kejriwal's way this afternoon by central ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Nirmala Sitaraman.

The BJP today asked Mr Kejriwal:

1 AAP has outsourced their vote seeking work to anti-national groups. Delhi voters are getting calls from Dubai, Bangladesh to vote for AAP. There is a map of that on AAP website. Did they not find volunteers in Delhi? Or in India?

2 AAP accuses every party of being corrupt. According to rules, political parties are supposed to submit poll expenses to the Election Commission. Why has AAP not submitted their Lok Sabha account to the commission?

3 It will not be an exaggeration to say that AAP is anti-woman party. All women members are leaving the party. Why are the women leaving the party? When BJP projects a woman candidate, they call her opportunistic... they should be ashamed. Is this how you deal with women?

4  AAP claims they respect institutions. But they do so as per their convenience. AAP has received three notices from Election Commission. Arvind is brazenly violating Election Commission directives. How does he respect institutions?

5 Arvind Kejriwal left the government in 49 days saying nobody is allowing to bring in Lokayukta. Why did he mislead people of Delhi? A Lokayukta exists in Delhi, if he wanted to strengthen it he could have taken points from Uttarakhand's Lokayukta. Kejriwal had gone with Anna to praise Uttarakhand's Lokayukta law made under BJP. Why couldn't he do it in 49 days?
